Turning Back the Clock with Hand Vein Treatments
While many of us focus on the effects of aging on our face, our hands are often one of the first places to belie the passing years. Thinning skin reveals large, bulging veins that can make you look older than you feel. Today, there are effective cosmetic treatments for hand veins that minimize the ropy appearance and turn back the clock on your hands.
There are a number of treatment options available for hand veins today, allowing the procedure to be customized to the patient’s specific concerns and desired outcome. Some of the more popular treatments for hand veins include:
Injectable fillers are commonly used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and shallow scarring on the face by supporting the underlying skin structure and smoothing away blemishes from the inside out. These fillers can also be used to add volume to areas like the cheeks and jawline for a more youthful profile. Now, injectable fillers are also used to add volume to the thinning skin of the hand, reducing the appearance of bulging, twisting veins.
Dermal fillers are administered using a very fine needle placed just under the surface of the skin. Topical anesthetic can be provided first to enhance patient comfort during the procedure. Injections take just a few minutes to complete and results are seen right away. Results may continue for a number of months before a touch-up treatment is needed.
Sclerotherapy, the injectable treatment used to eliminate spider and smaller varicose veins, can also be effectively used on some hand veins. A sclerosing solution is placed directly into the affected vein, which causes the walls of the vessel to collapse and seal closed. Blood is rerouted through healthy veins nearby.
Sclerotherapy is typically used on superficial veins, so closing the veins does not affect the overall blood flow of the body. Injections take just a few minutes to complete and there is no recovery time after the procedure. Results may be seen right away, but typically improve in the weeks following the procedure.
Fractional Laser Therapy
Even when you effectively eliminate large hand veins, age spots and other skin blemishes may still give your hands an aged appearance. For these patients, fractional laser therapy can be used to smooth away skin creases and minimize the appearance of age spots. Fractional laser energy only addresses a small amount of skin at a time, leaving surrounding skin and tissue untouched.
Fractional laser therapy is performed on an outpatient basis and requires little or no downtime afterward. Results can be seen right away and continue to improve with time. In some cases, results of a single treatment may be long-lasting, while other patients may require a series of treatment sessions to achieve desired results.
The hands tend to show the effects of aging faster than any other part of our body. If you are ready to turn back the clock on your hands, contact PCI Vein Center at 319-362-5118 to learn more about your options in hand vein treatment.
